For the first half of 2020, many of us have experienced a great deal of stress in our daily lives. Stay at home orders shifted many employers to have employees work from home, schools from kindergarten to college are now online, the health, wealth, and peace of mind for many of us is hard to find.

What can you do to reduce your stress level?

Know that you can’t control everything and try to make the best of the situation. Focus on the positive things around you. Breathe. Breathing helps to calm you. Deep breaths through your nose help regulate your body pulse, blood pressure, and provide more oxygen to your system.

If you can, go outside and walk. The sun is a significant source of vitamin D and improves your overall mood. Sunlight influences your circadian rhythm and may help regulate your sleep. Sleep is essential to reducing stress and calming your mind and body. A full 8 hours of restful sleep helps to restore your body.

Stay off personal electronic devices as much as you can. Shift your focus to hobbies, interests, reading actual books or magazines, communicating with family and friends close to you.

Try to eat healthy foods that give you energy and whole nutrition.  Nourishing your mind and body with proper sleep, activity, food, and focus will go a long way to reduce your stress levels.
